Infectious Diseases
Infectious diseases remain disproportionately prevalent among homeless populations due to environmental exposure, weakened immunity, and barriers to preventive care.
1. TUBERCULOSIS (TB)
2. HIV AND VIRAL HEPATITIS
3. SKIN INFECTIONS AND DERMATOLOGICAL CONDITIONS
Tuberculosis risk is increased due to:
Overcrowded shelters
Poor ventilation
Weakened immune systems
Delayed diagnosis
Treatment adherence is particularly challenging because TB therapy requires long-term, consistent medication use. Interrupted treatment increases the risk of drug-resistant strains.
