6. Trauma and Physical Health Interaction
Trauma does not remain confined to mental health.
CHRONIC STRESS AND NEUROBIOLOGICAL DYSREGULATION INCREASE RISK FOR:

Cardiovascular disease

Diabetes

Obesity

Chronic pain syndromes

Gastrointestinal problems

Sleep disorders

Immune dysfunction

SLEEP DEPRIVATION ALONE CAN:

Increase irritability

Worsen depression

Elevate blood pressure

Impair glucose regulation

Reduce impulse control

When a person with untreated hypertension misses appointments, it may not reflect indifference. It may reflect executive dysfunction under chronic stress.
Mental and physical health destabilise each other.
